I specialize in couple therapy.
With my guidance, partners practice assertively pursuing their hopes and wishes, and develop their sympathy for each other. This practicing allows partners to make the compromises, adjustments, and concessions that help their relationship continue to grow. Growing as a couple isn’t just a matter of learning communication skills. It takes time—and effort---to feel one’s own heart, and to sense the heart of someone else. Proceeding slowly enough, and daring to be open, are key.
Initially, partners may come into a session frustrated with each other, or afraid that their relationship is beyond salvation. One or the other partner may feel skeptical of the therapy process itself. I help clarify these feelings, which I believe are always justified. By working through feelings together, helping each partner to share thoughts and ideas more accurately and fully, I strive to rekindle couples' sense of hope.
If a couple comes to feel mutual understanding, they may be able to shift their relationship in a more positive direction.
